Useful Equipment for Homemade Fried Chicken

You do not need a commercial kitchen, but a few simple tools make coating, temperature control and resting much easier.

Food-safety note: Keep raw chicken separate from ready-to-eat foods, marinate under refrigeration, and cook poultry to at least 165°F / 73.9°C as measured with a food thermometer. Hot-oil frying requires careful adult handling and suitable equipment.

Food thermometer

A digital instant-read thermometer helps verify the thickest meat has reached a safe internal temperature.

Wire rack and sheet pan

A rack keeps coated pieces organized before cooking and lets cooked chicken drain without trapping steam.

Cooking equipment

For deep or shallow frying, use stable cookware or a purpose-built fryer appropriate for hot oil and follow manufacturer safety guidance.

Separate utensils

Keep utensils and surfaces that touched raw chicken separate from the clean rack and utensils used for cooked chicken.
